Despite its Native American origin, over time the sport became popular amongst the wealthy and their Ivy League institutions. Now, a new generation of players is coming up, and the sport provides great opportunities for Black youth to excel in a sport where they are traditionally underrepresented. In this episode we hear from Khalid West, Co-founder and Executive Director of the Brooklyn Lacrosse Club, as well as coaches David Pérez, Lee Walker, and David Swartz. They describe the mission of this volunteer-led organization as the players practice on the field at Pier 5, Brooklyn Bridge Park.
