The BKLYN Fashion Academy’s Ancient Egypt-inspired runway show was a shining example of bottom-up culture and creativity. This was a student fashion show, free from the corporate involvement that dominates the fashion industry. The designers put in long hours, sewing each piece together with passion and love, without any outside help. The result was stunning – each look was a unique masterpiece that showcased the designers’ talent and creativity. The designs were so impressive that they could have easily outshone those worn by celebrities at the Met Gala. Unlike big-name fashion shows, this event was all about the individual designers and their vision.
The event, hosted by Fashion + Media Entrepreneur Tamiko White, showcased the collections of talented designers including Danielle Castor, Ghislaine Sabiti, Nona Aquan, Minaxi Mahedia, Nicole lamour, Jala Alexis, Akelia Francis, Ash-Miela Mason, Maya Walker, Roberto Silva, Jean Remarque, Tamara Belinda, Elizabeth Hazelwood, Andres Biel, and Ciara Rivera.
The designers drew inspiration from the complex pantheon of gods and goddesses worshipped in Ancient Egyptian civilization, one of the oldest and most influential civilizations in human history. The class of 2023 from the Brooklyn Public Library’s Business & Career Center’s intensive 16-week program, Brooklyn Fashion Academy, used their knowledge of Ancient Egypt to create modern-day ready-to-wear looks inspired by mythological fashion.
Not only did the runway show feature stunning fashion, but it also included a reception catered by the winners of the BPL PowerUP! Business Plan Competition, Island Pops and Bogota Latin Bistro.
Join us in celebrating the intersection of fashion and culture, as we explore how ancient Egyptian deities have influenced fashion through the ages. The BKLYN Fashion Academy is supported by NYC/EDC, Mach School of Design, BK | Style Foundation, Major Face, Behind the Rack, L’Oreal, FW/BK Fashion Week Brooklyn, ECRU New York, and Fab Scrap.
Don’t miss out on this unique and inspiring event that brings together the past and the present in the world of fashion!
