Lincoln Center’s Summer for The City series delivered another evening of world class entertainment on August 9th at Damrosch Park. The “J Period Live Mixtape: Gods & Kings Edition”, featured Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, Kool G Rap, Craig G, and other special guests.
The night was part of the city-wide celebration of 50 Years of Hip Hop, marking the anniversary of the musical form that originated in New York City and went on to conquer the world.
Big Daddy Kane and Rakim performed extensive sets including all of their greatest hits, to a large appreciative crowd. The energy was pure NYC and I was thrilled to be covering the event.
